Area Lions Clubs are conducting annual fund raising efforts with popular produce. The Wesson Lions Club offers sweet potatoes and the Brookhaven Noon Lions Club offers pecans.

Sweet potatoes are available now from any Wesson Lions Club member until the supply runs out, and will be available Saturday at the Wesson Flea Market. This is the ninth consecutive year the club has brought a truckload of “the best sweet potatoes grown anywhere in the world,” according to club member Bob Arnold, from Landreth Farms in Vardaman, known as the Sweet Potato Capital of the World.

The club has brought 350 boxes, each containing 40 pounds of regular-size potatoes and a few boxes of jumbo potatoes — each for $20 per box or 50 cents per pound.

These are the same potatoes sold commercially to national food stores like Kroger and Walmart and canners such as Gerber.

Pecans sold by the Noon Lions Club in Brookhaven come in halves or pieces at $10 per bag. The “fresh off the tree” nuts from Schermer Pecans in Georgia will be available beginning Oct. 25 until they are all gone.

Nuts can be purchased at any Brookhaven bank or from any Lions Club member.
