A hit-and-run accident knocked out power to a section of homes on South Jackson Street Thursday afternoon.

A homeowner said he heard a loud crash just after 4:30 p.m. and then the power to his home went out. He went outside and saw the power pole near his home broken and lines across the road, but the vehicle had left the scene.

Brookhaven police responded and blocked the roadway until Entergy crews could arrive to repair the damage.
