Mississippi Composer of the Year Derek Norsworthy met with students at Mississippi School of the Arts this week to talk about songwriting and the music industry. A South Mississippi native, Norsworthy is a singer/songwriter who has played renowned venues and festivals, opening for such acts as Blake Shelton, Aaron Lewis, Charlie Daniels and 3 Doors Down. He has written numerous film scores and for the Netflix series “Last Chance U.” He is also the founder of Rep Your Roots Clothing, a philanthropic group that provides assistance to charity organizations and promotes music education to schools.
