Severe storms likely tonight and tomorrow

Severe thunderstorms are expected to be a marginal threat for the area tonight and tomorrow.

The National Weather Service in Jackson has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for portions of South Central, East Central and Central Mississippi, including Lincoln, Lawrence, Copiah, Franklin and Jefferson Davis counties.

Isolated severe thunderstorms are possible late tonight into Saturday morning. Some could produce damaging wind gusts and hail. NWS also warned that a tornado cannot be ruled out.

Isolated severe thunderstorms will still be possible before noon Saturday.

For Friday, a 20 percent chance of showers exists in the morning hours, with winds of 10-15 mph and gusts up to 25 mph. The chance of rain increases to 50 percent tonight with showers and thunderstorms coming into the area mainly after 1 a.m. Rainfall amounts of less than 1/10 inch are expected, though higher amounts are possible during thunderstorms.

The weather is expected to clear overnight Saturday into Sunday, when sunny skies are in the forecast.
