“Here are your new COVID guidelines,” Lincoln County Emergency Management Director Chris Reid said as he passed out sheets of paper to the Brookhaven Board of Aldermen Tuesday night.

The updated guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say anyone with symptoms of COVID or who has tested positive for the coronavirus COVID-19 must stay home from work and isolate for five days.

“If you are fever-free for at least 24 hours, you can come back to work, but you must wear a mask for five more days,” Reid said. “We know Gov. Tate Reeves ended the program last year that paid for people to be out. You’re on your own now. No one likes to use their sick time, but you’re going to have to. There’s no legal way around that.”

Complete guidelines provided by Reid were:

If you test positive for COVID-19, isolate — everyone, regardless of vaccination status.

• Stay home for five days.

• If you have no symptoms or your symptoms are resolving after five days, you can leave your house.

• Continue to wear a mask around others for an additional five days.

• If you have a fever, continue to stay home until your fever resolves.

If you were exposed to someone with COVID-19, quarantine. If you:

• Have been boosted OR

• Completed the primary series of Pfizer or Moderna vaccine within the past six months OR

• Completed the primary series of Johnson & Johnson vaccine within the past two months

• Wear a mask around others for 10 days.

• Test on day five, if possible.

• If you develop symptoms, get a test and stay home.

If you:

• Completed the primary series of Pfizer or Moderna vaccine more than six months ago and are not boosted OR

• Completed the primary series of Johnson & Johnson more than two months ago and are not boosted OR

• Are unvaccinated

• Stay home for five days. After that, continue to wear a mask around others for five additional days.

• If you cannot quarantine, you must wear a mask for 10 days.

• Test on day five, if possible.

• If you develop symptoms, get a test and stay home.
