The first-ever second round opponent for the Loyd Star girls’ soccer team was a veteran club and the Lady Hornets had their season ended Saturday via a 6-0 loss at Our Lady Academy in Bay St. Louis.
Loyd Star and second-year coach Jordan Lea end the season with a 17-5 record and won a playoff match for the first time ever with a 5-0 win over Morton. OLA led 5-0 at the half and moves on to face St. Patrick High in the south state finals for MHSAA Class I.
“I know the results weren’t what we wanted, and this isn’t how we envisioned our season ending, but words cannot express how proud I am of this team,” said Lea. “From the beginning of the summer, they did everything I asked and more. They’ve taught me just as many lessons as I’ve been able to teach them and I’ll forever be grateful to them for that. I wish the seniors nothing but the best and am so thankful for their leadership these last few years.”
The Class I north finals will be Amory against another parochial school, defending champ St. Andrew’s. Those schools will also meet in the Class I north finals in boys’ soccer.
St. Patrick also beat Franklin County 4-0 in a boys’ second round matchup. St. Patrick and Saint Stanislaus will meet up in the south state Class I boys’ finals.
