COVID-19: Latest update shows cases down

Though Mississippi’s number of COVID-19 cases mimics the rise and fall in the United States as a whole, our state is way under the radar when it comes to new cases.
According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, as of Feb. 23 in the United States “the current 7-day moving average of daily new cases (75,208) decreased 37.7 percent compared with the previous 7-day moving average (120,761). A total of 78,595,529 COVID-19 cases have been reported in the United States as of Feb. 23.”
The Mississippi Department of Health reported that there have been 228 new cases and 61 new deaths as of Feb. 28 in the Mississippi. That brings the total number of state cases to 790,168 and a total of 12,100 deaths.
In the last week, the following county numbers were registered:
Amite County – there have been 3,206 total cases, 67 total deaths, 58 long-term facility cases and 10 long-term facility deaths.
Copiah County – there have been 7,091 total cases, 112 total deaths, 109 long-term facility cases and 15 long-term facility deaths.
Franklin County – there have been 1,920 total cases, 37 total deaths, 47 long-term facility cases and 5 long-term facility deaths.
Jefferson County – there have been 1,470 total cases, 37 total deaths, 41 long-term facility cases and 7 long-term facility deaths.
Lawrence County – there have been 3,561 total cases, 54 total deaths, 28 long-term facility cases and 2 long-term facility deaths.
Lincoln County – there have been 8,245 total cases, 155 total deaths, 214 long-term facility cases and 45 long-term facility deaths.
Pike County – there have been 9,432 total cases, 182 total deaths, 178 long-term facility cases and 44 long-term facility deaths.
Walthall County – there have been 3,570 total cases, 78 total deaths, 71 long-term facility cases and 16 long-term facility deaths.
