At approximately 5:10 p.m. Friday, Mississippi Highway Patrol Troopers were conducting a safety checkpoint at Hwy. 583 and Dale Trail when a white Ford SUV attempted to evade the checkpoint, according to Cpl. Craig James.

Troopers attempted a traffic stop and the vehicle fled. The pursuit ended on McCormick Circle when the driver stopped the vehicle and fled on foot.

He was apprehended after a short foot pursuit, James said.
