A gathering of princesses joins for tea at Butterfield Mansion

It was a royal day Saturday at Butterfield Mansion when princesses tall and small gathered for a Mommy & Me Princess Tea, filled with goodies, sing-a-longs and games.

Stacie Cross of Butterfield Mansion said they had a good crowd for the tea, with about 200 signed up between the two sessions offered.

They first held the tea in 2019, but had to cancel in latter years due to the global pandemic.

“We had to wait, but we’ve had a great reaction to the tea,” Cross said as princesses glided past her near the mansion’s fairy tale staircase. “I even had mothers send me pictures of their daughters’ rooms, with their princess outfits and accessories all laid out, ready to go. They were so excited!”

All donations and proceeds benefited The American Cancer Society. “I’ve got to thank Sam Sones of Farm Bureau and Claire Crow at The Mortgage Company for their sponsorship,” Cross said of the fun time for both moms and daughters.

Madeleine Brown brought her own little princess, Cecilia, 4. They live in Ridgeland, but were visiting family, so what better way to spend a Saturday than to go to tea with other little princesses?

“Cecilia loves having tea, and she loves Belle,” Brown said as Cecilia nodded while munching on a treat. She couldn’t seem to take her eyes off a tiny cupcake with glittery icing sitting just inches from her plate. “This is her third tea – one was at Disney and she loved it. And she loves dressing up.”

“I love everything,” Cecilia said in a whisper as she saw Ursula (actually Cacey Burns, who was there with her daughter, Kailor, 5) slither by. Cecilia hugged herself and gave a little shake before pointing to the glittery, sparkly pink table at which she sat.

“This, this, is the best. It’s a pretty table. That’s my favorite,” she added with a happy sigh and a small smile for her mother.

Then off she went to sing princess songs and dance with all the rest.

Meanwhile, Lucy Stewart – at eight months too little to get into the crowd – watched with her mother Jessica. Lucy shook her rattle to the music while her mother smiled fondly.

Next year, Lucy herself might just be in the crowd, too, signing the words she knows by heart.
