Copiah-Lincoln Community College’s Precision Machining Technology program trains students with unique skills that are in high demand by employers in the manufacturing industry. This program, located on the Wesson Campus, is a good fit for students who like working with their hands, creating physical products that can be marketed and sold, and enjoy programming and operating complex manufacturing machines. 

Precision Machining is a two-year Career and Technical program where students learn to operate a metal lathe, milling machines, drill presses, precision grinders, and computerized numerical control (CNC) machines. Students will also learn software skills in computer-aided manufacturing and computer-aided design (CAM/CAD), as well as appropriate workplace safety skills.

“One of the best parts of the Precision Machining program is the hands-on training received throughout the two years of instruction,” said Program Coordinator/Instructor Bo Johnson. “Our program is a close-knit group. We work one-on-one to give students the full attention they need to sharpen their skills and be prepared for the workforce after graduation.”

All students have ample employment opportunities in the manufacturing industry upon graduation, with some even working part-time while completing the Precision Machining program. Recent graduates are now employed at Milwaukee Tools, Eaton Aerospace and Precision Spine, in Jackson, MS; Smith’s Machine and Welding and Pepper’s Machine and Welding in Brookhaven; as well as many employment opportunities outside of the state.

Upon program completion, students will be National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS) certified on several skills and operations. Students will also receive OSHA 30 safety certification. Student scholarships are available!
