The Brookhaven-Lincoln County Airport runway project is approaching its destination, and looks to land on-time.

Engineer Ryan Holmes, of Dungan Engineering, told Brookhaven’s Board of Aldermen Tuesday that the project should be completed by the first of June.

“The milling is complete and the first lift, or layer, of asphalt is complete. We anticipate the next lift to take approximately one week,” Holmes said. “After paving is complete, the asphalt will cure and then pavement markings will be applied.”

New lighting will also be completed while the airport is closed.

“We anticipate opening at the beginning of June, pending good weather to complete the work,” said Holmes.
