Better safe than sorry with hurricane prep

Published 6:00 pm Wednesday, June 1, 2022

Hurricane season officially starts today, June 1, and goes through Nov. 30.

Most people who have lived in Mississippi for any length of time know that being prepared is important. The NOAA Climate Prediction Center has predicted above-average activity this year, with 14-21 named storms.

“Being prepared can be life-saving in the wake of a hurricane or tropical storm,” said Stephen McCraney, executive director of Mississippi Emergency Management Agency. “Make sure your family has a go-kit and evacuation plan. Don’t wait for a storm to enter the Gulf of Mexico to begin your family’s preparations. Now is the time.”
