Copiah-Lincoln Community College Athletic Director Bryan Nobile and the college recently revealed new hires for multiple sports ahead of the upcoming 2022-2023 school year.

Football — Buck

CLCC head football coach Glenn Davis has added Darius Buck to his staff as a cornerback coach. Buck has been the defensive coordinator for the last two seasons at Clark Atlanta University, a Division II program.

A native of Vicksburg who graduated from Warren Central, this will be Buck’s second stint in the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference (MACCC) after he previously worked at Jones College from 2013-2015 as a graduate assistant.

As a collegiate student-athlete, Buck played the position that he now coaches as a defensive back at Murray State University. He transferred to Murray State after first playing at Southwest Mississippi Community College.

From Jones, Buck went on to work as a grad assistant at the University of South Alabama from 2015-2017.

Prior to working at Clark, Buck coached cornerbacks and the punt team from 2017-2019 at Albany State University in Albany, Georgia.

“Darius is a former student-athlete in this league with Mississippi ties” said Davis in a release by the school announcing the hire. “He brings experience at the senior college and junior college level. He received high praises from everyone that I talked to about him. They all commented about him being a great recruiter and outstanding coach. He will do a great job developing our future defensive backs. He will be a great fit in the Wolf Pack family.”

Buck replaces longtime CLCC assistant coach Calvin Green who retired following the 2021 season.

The defensive staff for the Wolf Pack has seen a couple of changes over the last few months as the school also recently tabbed Matt Gordon as defensive coordinator.

Gordon replaces David Duggan, who was hired in the spring to replace former d-coordinator William Jones. Jones left Wesson for the same position on the new coaching staff at Holmes Community College.

Duggan never coached a game at Co-Lin though as he resigned to take over as defensive coordinator at Jackson Academy under new JA head coach Aubrey Blackwell.

Longtime linebackers coach Maurice Johnson will be back in that same role on the staff that now includes Gordon and Buck.

Baseball — Stewart

Another fairly new coaching addition to the athletic program is first year head baseball coach Adam Chamblee. Chamblee made his first hire with the recent addition of Chase Stewart as an assistant coach for the baseball program.

Stewart comes to Wesson after spending last season as an assistant coach at Petal High School.

Prior to working at Petal, Stewart was an assistant coach at Clinton High for two seasons and served as interim coach of the Arrows during the 2021 season. Before he was hired at Clinton, Stewart coached for two seasons at Wayne County High School.

A graduate of West Jones High School, Stewart played collegiately at Jones College and was part of the 2011 Bobcat team that finished at NJCAA runners-up in the junior college world series.

“We’re extremely excited to have Coach Stewart join our staff as the pitching coach,” said Chamblee in a release by the school announcing the hire. “I believe that connections that he has made at the high school level will greatly benefit us in recruiting. I know that he will do a great job leading our pitching staff on a daily basis. Pitching development is something that you can tell he is very passionate about, and I know that he will push our guys to be better every day.”

Golf — Lee

CLCC golf coach Allen Kent is also gaining an assistant with the addition of Dejoné S. Lee to the program.

Lee is a native of South Africa and has a connection to Wesson through her husband Will, a former member of the CLCC golf team.

Earlier this year Lee wrapped up a decorated playing career at Blue Mountain College. She finished ninth overall at the 2022 SSAC Championship, carding a 78-81-75-234 to lead Blue Mountain at the event. Lee was also named to the Barnes & Noble College All-Academic Team in 2022 took home multiple medalist honors during her senior season at BMC.

“We are ecstatic to have Dejoné (Dee) join our program,” said Kent in a release by the school. “She’s fresh off a collegiate playing career at Blue Mountain College and is eager to get started. Dee will help us tremendously in all phase of our practices and on-course management. She has a great understanding of the golf swing and does a great job of applying that knowledge to her students. I know our guys are going to like her.”

Lee has prior experience as an instructor at Edwin Compton Golf Academy in Witbank, South Africa and also previously worked at the Bankenveld Golf Club.

Cheer — Boyd

The final coaching hire publicized by the college is no stranger to the school as Co-Lin alum Cory Boyd has come on to serve as an assistant cheer coach in Wesson.

A product of Loyd Star, Boyd came to CLCC as a member of the football team before joining the cheer program in 2000.

From there, Boyd went on to cheer at the University of Southern Mississippi. He’s built an impressive resume over the last decade within the competitive cheer world while working as athletic director and head coach at Gym of Dreams in Brookhaven.

“Brining Cory on board as a member of the coaching staff was an easy decision for me,” said CLCC cheer coach Micah Allen in a release announcing the hire. “Cory loves Co-Lin and cheer, plus he also brings a male coaching aspect to the team that I could never bring to the squad. Knowing our goals line up and match for where we want to take the squad is going to make it easy to work with him. I am really excited to see where the squad goes from here with Cory joining us.”

The 2022-2023 Co-Lin athletic calendar begins on Aug. 18 when the women’s soccer team travels to play Southwest Tennessee Community College in the first match of the season.
