The one-month qualifying period for upcoming school board elections begins Aug. 10.

Anyone interested in running for Lincoln County School Board Educational District 5 or the Brookhaven School District Board of Trustees must qualify through Circuit Clerk Dustin Bairfield’s office. The period runs from 8 a.m. Aug. 10 until Sept. 9 at 5 p.m.

Paperwork can be picked up at the Circuit Clerk’s Office, downloaded from www.DustinBairfield.com, or requested from Bairfield at dbairfield@co.lincoln.ms.us.

Anyone who lives in Lincoln County District 2 who wants to run for Election Commissioner of the district can qualify now until Sept. 9. Fifty signatures from active voters in the district are required in order to qualify. This election is for a one-year term to fill a vacancy.

The General Election will be Tuesday, Nov. 8. The election will also include:

• U.S. Representative District 3 — Incumbent Michael Guest (Republican) vs. Shuwaski Young (Democrat)

• Court of Appeals — Incumbent Judge Virginia Carlton vs. Bruce W. Burton

• Circuit Court Judges — unopposed incumbents Michael Taylor and David Strong Jr.

• Chancery Court Judge — unopposed incumbent Joseph Durr

Special election

A Special Election will take place Tuesday, Aug. 30, on Lincoln County Medical Marijuana. Options will be to vote for or against the cultivation, processing, sale and/or distribution of medical cannabis in Lincoln County. This does not include the City of Brookhaven, which opted in to allowing medical cannabis.
