“There’s a new fair in town,” is the rallying cry for this year’s Exchange Club Fair.

The club’s fair is an annual tradition in Brookhaven that coincides with families getting students back to school. The fair has been a fun way to deal with the stress of the change for students, and a way to mark the end of the summer vacation.

The “new fair” cry refers to lots of changes made to the fair. Every booth and building has been repainted, and several upgrades have been made. One such upgrade came as the result of an Eagle Scout project from Brooklyn Lee, age 13.

With help from his dad Paxton Lee, a couple of friends and some Club members, Lee refurbished the basketball toss. A net was added, along with stone and mulch around the bottom.

Lee, a member of Boy Scouts of America Troop 119 in Brookhaven, said they started the project July 10 and finished July 22.

“I have to complete two more merit badges and I can Eagle in December,” Lee said.

Other projects include replaced wiring and glass in the Dunking Booth, and replaced wood in the ticket booth.

The fair begins this Thursday at 6 p.m. and go until 9 p.m. Hours will be the same Friday and Saturday. Gate fee is $5 per person and ride armbands are $10 each.

The fair will be open again Thursday-Saturday, Aug. 4-6.

Featured fun this year includes the Ferris wheel, football throw, Chunk-n-dunk, goldfish, Wheel of Fortune, dart throw, grab bags, bingo, Frolic, Cars, roller coaster, big swings and the Tilt-a-Whirl. Lots of fair favorite concessions will also be available.
