Funeral services for Dewey Purvis Smith will be on Monday, August 1, 2022, at Brookhaven Funeral Home (894 Natchez Drive) in Brookhaven, MS, at 12:00 Noon with burial to follow in the Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery. Dr. Garland Boyd and Rev. Nathan Case will be officiating the services with Brookhaven Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be at Brookhaven Funeral Home on Monday, August 1, 2022, from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM.

Mr. Smith, 90, of Brookhaven, MS, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, July 29, 2022, at King’s Daughters Medical Center with his loving family by his side.  He was born on November 3, 1931, in Lincoln County, MS, to Grandberry Smith and Eula Smith Smith. He was a long-time member of Macedonia Baptist Church and   loved his church family.  Dewey worked all his life as a beef and dairy farmer. He always made the statement that “farmers were the backbone of this country”. He was a loving son and brother to his family. Dewey loved his wife and two sons dearly.

Preceding him in death were his parents Grandberry and Eula Smith; wife of 43 years Lee Ruie Case Smith; sisters Bernice Calcote, Helen Robin and Winnie Smith; brothers Hoyte Smith and Ed Smith.

Survivors are his sons Dewey Steven Smith (Jane) and Alan Dale Smith (Sharon); and a host of family and friends.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Tammy Blackmon of Stay Home Health Services, the staff at Haven Hall Nursing Home especially Debbie Parkman, KDMC Emergency Room staff and the 3rd floor nursing unit especially Mattie Rials, Jan Thurman who works in social services at KDMC and Karlee Gilbert with Hospice Ministries Inc. A special thanks to Gene, JJ and Asher Myers.

The family has asked in lieu of flowers please send donations in Mr. Dewey’s name to Macedonia Baptist Church Building Fund.
