Weather conditions could threaten Southwest Mississippi this afternoon, tomorrow

JACKSON — The National Weather Service office in Jackson published a severe weather outlook for Southwest Mississippi Wednesday morning. NWS forecasts the storms to be marginal and to happen from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday afternoon and again on Thursday.

These isolated storms could produce wind gusts of up to 60 miles per hour. Wind is the biggest hazard the storms are expected to produce according to the NWS.

At the same time, Southwest Mississippi could face dangerous heat conditions today. Lincoln County is forecast to see temperatures in the mid to upper 90s with heat indices of 106 to 110 degrees. Heat exhaustion is likely with prolonged outdoor activity until 6 p.m. Brookhaven’s low should drop down to 70 degrees tonight.
