COVID-19 Update: Transmission level drops, cases still reported

The COVID-19 community transmission level has dropped to medium for Lincoln County, but 138 new cases have been recorded in the previous week. One new death was reported in the first week of August.

As of Monday, Aug. 22, Lincoln County has reported 9,577 total positive tests and 160 related deaths. Case and death totals are now updated weekly on Tuesday.

In Mississippi over the past seven days, eight COVID-19 related deaths were reported statewide, along with 4,017 new positive cases of the virus. There have now been 904,905 cases and 12,766 deaths over the course of the pandemic.

In the United States, cases, deaths and hospital admissions are trending downward. To-date, more than 93.64 million people have been diagnosed with COVID-19, and more than 1.036 million have died.

In medium community transmission conditions, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention suggests wearing a mask and taking other precautions for those at high risk for severe illness.
