Wesson Garden Club meets, creates Polly’s Garden

The Wesson Garden Club’s first meeting of the 2022-2023 club year was held Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2022, at the American Legion Post 79.

President Dixie Thornton welcomed the following 24 members in attendance: Marilyn Britt, Sherri Carty, Sonya Cowen, Sherry Davis, Robin Furr, Rebecca Harrison, Ramona Hartzog, Cherry Head, Debbie Hoaglin, Denise Jackson, Pam McLemore, Ashley Munn, June Owens, Pam Owens, Jennifer Peets, Joy Phillips, Marilyn Phillips, Jean Ricks, Meghan Shepherd, Debbie Smith, Lisa Smith, Dixie Thornton, Brittney Warren, and Joy Wesbrooks. 

Jean Ricks led the members in reciting the club’s Collect. June Owens blessed the food prepared by the Executive Committee — Dixie Thornton, Denise Jackson, Pam Owens, June Owens, Debbie Smith, Debbie Hoaglin and Jean Ricks. After enjoying the refreshments and a time of fellowship, the meeting was called to order to conduct the club’s business.

Speakers were Jennifer Peets and Lisa Smith. Jennifer introduced the membership to the new club mascot, known as “Polly the Pollinator.” Polly has already been located at a butterfly garden at the Wesson Attendance Center and will soon be seen at the town’s Fountain Garden. Lisa, chairman of the Flower Show Committee, spoke on the plans for the upcoming Flower Show to be held in the spring.

The remainder of the meeting was spent viewing the new 2022-2023 yearbook and discussing projects for the new year. The upcoming annual Mums Sale will be announced later.
