Twenty-two members of the Wesson Garden Club met Tuesday, Sept. 13, at the American Legion Post 79 for the program, “Invasive Plants … Where Do They Come From?!”

Guest speaker Shaun Broderick has worked in the horticulture industry for more than 22 years. Broderick’s education background is in plant genetics, molecular biology and biotechnology from Brigham Young University and Ohio State University. He is currently over the trial garden working on plant genetics and breeding projects with the Mississippi State University Truck Crops Experiment Station in Crystal Springs.

Broderick shared how to control and recognize invasive plants in our landscapes. Members enjoyed taking a fun test on invasive plants, asking questions and showing plant samples from their yards for Broderick to identify. The meeting was very educational.
