Franklin County producers may be eligible to apply for 2022 Livestock Forage Disaster Program (LFP) benefits, according to the United States Department of Agriculture. Eligible losses are on small grain, native pasture, improved pasture, annual ryegrass, or forage sorghum, for grazing.

LFP provides compensation if a producer suffers grazing losses for covered livestock due to drought on privately owned or leased land. County committees can only accept LFP applications after notification is received by the National Office of a qualifying drought, which is determined using National Drought Monitor data, which occurred for Franklin County.

The beginning date of the designated drought for Franklin County is March 8, 2022. Livestock must have been owned within the prior 60 days, between Jan. 7, 2022, and March 7, 2022.

Applicants must complete form CCC-853 and the required supporting documentation no later than Jan. 31, 2023, for the March 8, 2022, designation, for losses for Franklin County.

If an acreage report is not on file for the producer’s 2022 Franklin county-grazed acreage, there will be a fee to late file acreage reports.
