Judy Katherine “Kathy” Akmenkalns, 72 of Brookhaven, MS passed away Friday, November 18, 2022, at the St. Dominic’s Hospital in Jackson, MS. She was born Saturday, July 22, 1950 in Bay Springs, Mississippi.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 25, 2022, from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church in Bay Springs, MS. Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 25, 2022 at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church in Bay Springs, MS. Burial will follow in Mt. Nebo Baptist Church Cemetery in Bay Springs, MS. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Bay Springs is in charge of arrangements. 601-764-2181

Kathy was respected and loved by all who crossed her path. She was an avid gardener and loved to cook. She enjoyed trying and perfecting new recipes. She loved her family and loved her Lord.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Osmond Brown and Mary Jane Stockman Herrington; and sister, Brenda Brown; and both maternal and paternal grandparents.
Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Olgert “Ollie” Akmenkalns, children, Sarah Akmenkalns Davis, Osmond “Bubby” Akmenkalns; daughter in law, Trish Akmenkalns; step children, Michael Akmenkalns, Angie Akmenkalns, and Nikki Peterson and husband Troy Peterson.
She has 9 grandchildren; Blake Stewart and wife Danica, Blaine Chisholm, Cameron Bruehl, Maddie Peterson, Payton Dominguez, Kevin Troxel, Benjamin Troxel Jr., Harley Thompson, and Valek Thompson.
She is survived by one great-granddaughter, Rynlee Stewart.
Her brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Suzanne Herrington, and sister and brother-in-law, Margret and Harry Walters also live on in her memory.
Pallbearers will be Austin Blake Stewart, Brian Herrington, Donald Brown, George Brown, Edward Brown, and Josh Walters.
