National Weather Service investigates storm damage, confirms tornado

MCCOMB — The National Weather Service New Orleans Office investigated storm damage near McComb and Magnolia this morning following a series of severe thunderstorms which rolled through the region yesterday. They have issued a preliminary rating for the tornado damage just south of McComb and across Magnolia as an EF1.

Further information about their damage survey will be released later this afternoon, NWS New Orleans said.

The National Weather Service Jackson Office confirmed an EF1 tornado touched down in Lawrence County. It had 90mph winds and was about 200 yards wide at its maximum width. This is still a preliminary result but further information will be released later this afternoon, NWS Jackson said.

Power Outages

According to Entergy, 1,354 customers are still without power but the majority of outages are outside of Lincoln, Lawerence, Copiah or Franklin Counties. Copiah has 10 customers without power at this time, according to the Entergy Outage map. Southwest Electric has 93 customers without power with 88 of these living in Copiah County out of 2,570 customers served in that county.
