BROOKHAVEN — Corporal Craig James, Public Affairs Officer with the Mississippi Highway Patrol Troop M in Brookhaven, confirmed a fatality on I-55 over the weekend in a statement released Monday.

The release states on Saturday, December 3, at about 12:01 a.m. the MHP responded to a fatal crash on the interstate at the 19 mile marker in Pike County. Sandy Lumpkin of Magnolia was driving a 2013 Dodge Charger north in the southbound lane of I-55 when it collided with Clifton Bonds of Tickfaw, Louisiana, who was driving  a 2014 International Tractor-Trailer south.

Lumpkin received fatal injuries from the crash and was pronounced dead on the scene. The crash remains under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
