Revitalization efforts continue at Brookhaven Exchange Club Park.

“We have two new booth sponsors,” said volunteer Barbara Davis. “Tom Smith Land and Homes sponsored the balloon dart game, and Dustin Allan of Allan Construction sponsored the goldfish booth.”

Sponsors take on the responsibility of replacing damaged structural components, updating electrical, cleaning and repainting — either by completing the work themselves or donating funds to have it done. Other booth sponsors have been King’s Daughters Medical Center, Toyota of Brookhaven, and three local banks — Bank of Brookhaven, BankPlus and Trustmark Bank.

“We need two more sponsors for game booths and some new games,” Davis said. “We also have a project no one has taken on yet — the fast-pitch trailer has to be renovated. It needs paint, rust cleaned off, and a few other repairs. Someone can also create a new booth.”

The next phase of renovations at the park is repainting the rides with a fair palette of colors. The first ride approved and paid for is The Frolic. Just inside the entrance gate of the fair, the ride is one of the club’s most popular.

The Brookhaven Trust is paying for the renovation of the small concession stand, Davis said, which is in progress. The roof will also be redone to a pitch to match the larger concession stand.

“We’re reaching out for funding from the State Board of Tourism, and looking for the possibility of federal funds through hometown Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith,” Davis said. “We hope we can get support to keep the fair updated and going. We are the only permanent fair in the state.”
