Beds of beautiful white pansies welcomed members of the Matinee Musicale music club to the stately home of Dr. and Mrs. Joe Moak for the first concert of the new year. Joining Mrs. Moak as hostesses were Mrs. Jeff Doremus, Mrs. Henry Ledet, and Mrs. Eddie Dixon. They welcomed guests to a table filled with delicious finger foods and a variety of treats served with coffee. 

Club President Mrs. Blake Scafidel welcomed members and guest who gathered in the spacious living room to hear Mr. Mitch Brantley perform his classical guitar program. Mr. Brantley, from Jackson, graduated with a BS and Masters in Music Performance from the University of Southern MS. He now teaches at Meridian Community College.

He began by introducing the group to his guitar and explaining the differences from other guitars. He shared that most classical guitar music is written or arranged by Spanish composers. Luis de Narvaez (1500-1580) composed the first piece in 1538. Guardame Las Vacas was performed followed by Fernando Sor’s Etude in B Minor (Op. 35, No. 22).

Francisco Tarrega (1852-19090) composed the next three numbers, including an arrangement of Ave Maria. Concluding the program were four selections written or arranged by Niccolo Paganini (1782-1840), a composer, violinist and guitar virtuoso.
