Brookhaven Academy has recognized Dawn Freeman as its 2022-2023 Educator of the Year. Freeman has taught at BA for 22 years.

“I have spent most of my life here at BA,” she said. “I was in the first K-5 class at Brookhaven Academy and graduated in 1994.”

Freeman earned a degree in business management at the University of Southern Mississippi. After working in business three years, she enrolled at Mississippi College and earned her teaching certification.

“I was given the opportunity to teach junior high math at Brookhaven Academy in 2001 and I have never looked back,” she said. “I currently teach seventh- and eighth-grade math, and am Student Council sponsor, Junior High Honor Society sponsor and Senior Class sponsor.”

Freeman as named Star Teacher twice in her career, and has now been named Educator of the Year for the third time.

“Teaching is such a rewarding career and I do not regret the day of accepting my position at Brookhaven Academy,” Freeman said. “I work for wonderful administrators and have an amazing team of teachers I work with every day. I am very blessed to be a part of the family here at Brookhaven Academy.”
