Weather Forecast: Flash flooding still a threat

BROOKHAVEN — According to the forecast by the National Weather Service in Jackson, Wednesday has a 30 percent chance of precipitation followed by showers and storms on Thursday. NWS Jackson reported Southwest Mississippi is at risk of flash floods Thursday and advises drivers to turn around and don’t drown if they encounter flooded roadways.

Brookhaven saw a little over four inches of rain to start the week and more rain is expected to come in the following days. Local rivers, bayous and streams could swell over their banks and low lying areas could be inundated by heavy rainfall over the next two days.

About two to three inches of rain is expected Thursday and more could fall in localized areas. The chance of precipitation for Thursday is 80 percent.
