BROOKHAVEN — Shellie Jordan grew up in Brookhaven and has now worked at Animal Medical Center for a year, close to where The Dart landed Thursday. Jordan said when she was a kid she told her dad she would work there one day. Her prophecy became true and now she helps the office run smoothly.

A graduate from Brookhaven High School, Jordan said she has worked at Trustmark bank and for Eric Boyd’s Tax Service in Brookhaven. She was a CPA at Eric Boyd for 18 years and brought her accounting experience to her role as office manager for Animal Medical Center.

Her work days consist of scheduling employees, handling accounting work, payroll, ordering dog food, ordering medicine and supplies. She said as a kid she loved animals and always thought it would be neat to work at the center.

“I love working with these doctors. They are great. We have good employees, we have a good group here. We are family oriented here,” Jordan said. “I used to do their books here when I was a CPA. I knew them well. One day my dog got sick and I came in. My dog Milo, a chihuahua, never gets sick. They asked me what I was doing and I told them I was looking for a job. They told me they were looking for an office manager and asked me to apply. I was hired on a week later.”

Milo was adopted from the Animal Medical Center after someone abandoned him in 2011. She adopted another dog named Daisy Mae in February of 2022 from the center. Daisy Mae is a miniature pinscher and weighs 5.4 ounces.

Jordan said she has always owned animals anywhere from cats, dogs, horses, turtles and rabbits. Horses are her favorite animal but she does not have any horses right now so her dogs are her favorite animal.

Pictures hung in the center’s lobby depict humans and animals from yesteryear in Brookhaven. Jordan said she loves animals and she loves Brookhaven, specifically the history here. She likes the feel of the town and how she knows a lot of people.

Her husband Randy is from Brookhaven and they have been married for 30 years. In her free time, she spends time with her family. They are either at home together or doing things together. The Homochitto River in Eddiceton is one of their favorite destinations.
“My son is my world. He does a lot with me and his name is Sawyer,” Jordan said. “We go to the river all the time. We do a lot there. We mud ride and go out by the river and soak up the sun or we just sit, cook and eat.”
