- DAILY LEADER FILE PHOTO Enterprise coach Shane Adams and both of his basketball teams will play again later this week in the Region 8-1A tournament at EAC after splitting games Monday with Lumberton. The girls’ team will play at 5:30 on Thursday in the consolation game. The boys’ team is scheduled to meet Richton on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. A loss would put them in the consolation game on Thursday and a win would move them to the championship game on Friday.
The host Enterprise Yellow Jackets won one and lost one Monday night at home to open the Region 8-1A basketball tournament.
In the girl’s game, the home team dropped a heartbreaker —38-37 — to the top-seeded team from Lumberton High.
The EAC boys’ also matched up with Lumberton and won their third game of the season over the Panthers by a 54-48 final score.
Both Enterprise teams are coached by Shane Adams and with just four schools fielding a girls’ team in the region, the EAC girls have already clinched a spot in the MHSAA 1A Tournament next week, despite the loss.
Next up for the Enterprise girls’ team will be a Thursday consolation game matchup with an opponent that has not been determined at press time. That game will tip off at 5:30 p.m.
On Monday in the close loss to Lumberton, senior point guard Hannah Jergins led the way with 14 points for Enterprise (4-12).
When the two teams met last Thursday, Lumberton won 52-19 at Enterprise.
Natalie Williams scored eight points for Enterprise while Kelcey Beeson added five points, Caitlin Case scored four points, Miranda Anderson scored three points and Kailee Nuckles added three points.
The boys’ team from EAC moved to 7-12 overall as sophomore Landon McNickles exploded for 30 points in the win to put the Yellow Jackets into the semifinals against Richton and to lock up a 1A playoff berth next week for the team.
Senior guard Payne Waldrop added 15 points for Enterprise. Michael Magee scored five points, Daylan Barden added two points and Nick Harris also scored two points for the Jackets.
