A two-block portion of North Jackson Street is closed to through-traffic this morning as a section of sidewalk is removed.

City of Brookhaven Street Department workers are removing concrete from the existing sidewalk, Public Works Director Keith Lewis said.

The section will be prepared for new concrete to be poured. The end result should be a safer sidewalk for pedestrians.

Motorists through the area should be aware of the temporary closure and take alternate routes.
