Krewe of Ceres presents 2023 maids

The Krewe of Ceres in Brookhaven will conduct its 56th annual Charity Ball on Saturday, Feb. 25, at The Lincoln Civic Center. Presentations begin at 7 p.m. Tickets are $50 and can be purchased by calling 601-757-2967.

Maids this year are Marin Anding, Riley Barker, Allison Covington, Kassidy Cupit, Hayley Freeny, Candace Johnson, Morgan Moak, Abigail Peavey, Katie Sproles and Rainie Welch.

Marin Elizabeth Anding is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jason Anding.  She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Janice Anding, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Moak, and the late Mr. Nelson Anding.

Marin is a 2021 graduate of Brookhaven Academy where she graduated with highest honors and was a member of the National Honor Society and a Mississippi Scholar. She was on the cheer squad and captain of the girls’ soccer team. She served on the Junior Auxiliary Crown Club and was the Operation Christmas Child Project Leader for Faith Presbyterian Church. She was selected to attend the HOBY Leadership Conference, Mississippi Governor’s School and as a page for the Mississippi House of Representatives. 

Marin is a sophomore at Mississippi State University majoring in Business Administration.  She plans to work in the business aspect of the music industry or possibly ministry.  She was a member of Student Association’s Freshman Reach and currently serves as Head of Fundraising and Finance of The Junction Retreat.

Marin attends Pinelake Church in Starkville where she serves as part of the Lead Team for Worship.  She also serves on the greeting and prayer teams. Her brother Grayson Anding served as escort in 2021.   

Riley Claire Barker is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Barker. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. And Mr. Robert Bowton and Mrs. Mary Ann Barker and the late James Barker.

Riley is a 2021 honors graduate of Brookhaven High School and a Mississippi Scholar recipient. She participated in National Honor Society, Homecoming production, and a Varsity cheerleader. She was a member of Junior Auxiliary Crown Club and a Chamber of Commerce Junior Ambassador. She was voted best all around her senior year and won Most Beautiful in the BHS pageant. She modeled in the Coastal Fashion week in Dallas Texas. Riley was a 15-year competitive dancer at Showstoppers Studio of Dance. 

Riley is a sophomore at Mississippi State University majoring in Business Administration and minoring in Marketing. She is a recipient of the academic excellence scholarship and the Swalm scholarship. Riley is an active member of the Delta Gamma Sorority where she continues her volunteer work with Delta Gamma’s philanthropies, Service for Sight and Gallant Hearts Guide Dog Center. She has participated in Limelight dance competition for the past two years. Riley is a member of First Baptist Church. Her sister, Carly, served as a maid in 2018

Allison Leah Covington is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Gary Covington. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. William H. Covington and the late Versie Rushing and late Mrs.Ann Herring Rushing.

Allison is a 2021 Highest Honor Graduate of Brookhaven Academy. She was chosen as Miss Brookhaven Academy and Homecoming Queen. She was also chosen Hall of Fame, Most Likely to Succeed, Best Christian Character, and Most Courteous. Allison was named Mississippi’s winner of the 2021 Billy Michael Student Leadership Award. She was chosen as a HOBY Leadership Conference Representative for BA.  Allison was a member of the Lady Cougar Basketball team and statistician for the Cougar Basketball team.

Allison is a sophomore at Copiah Lincoln Community College majoring in Elementary Education. She is a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. She serves as manager for the Lady Wolves Softball Team. Allison is a member of Future Teachers of America and participates in the Baptist Student Union. She was chosen for Who’s Who for Co-Lin. Allison plans on furthering her education at Mississippi State in the fall of 2023. Allison is a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

Kassidy Brooke Cupit is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Brad Cupit.  She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Doylene Cupit and the late Mr. David Cupit and Mrs. Shirley Crosby and the late Mr. Garland Crosby.

Kassidy was Brookhaven Academy’s 2021 Valedictorian. She was a Mississippi Scholar and selected as a member of Brookhaven Academy’s Hall of Fame.  Kassidy was a member of Brookhaven Academy’s ACT 25+ Club, the Science National Honor’s Society, and was President of the National Honor Society.  She was also a Varsity Cheerleader and on the Varsity Tennis Team. 

Kassidy is currently in Nursing School at William Carey University. Before William Carey, Kassidy attended Copiah-Lincoln Community College and graduated with Highest Honors in 2022.  While at Co-Lin, she was a Trailblazer, on the Women’s Wolfpack Tennis Team, and served as Secretary for Mu Alpha Theta. She was a member of Phi Theta Kappa and the Baptist Student Union.  She was selected as a National Scholarship Recipient from the National Mu Alpha Theta Society.  She was also chosen for Who’s Who Among Community College Students and as a MACCC Distinguished Academic All-State honoree.  Kassidy is a member of Friendship Baptist Church. 

Hayley Kathryn Freeny is the daughter of Mr. And Mrs. Trey  Freeny. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Kathy Trim and the late Mr. Dwight Trim.

Hayley is a 2021 Honors graduate of Brookhaven Academy where she maintained an all A record. She was a member of the National Honor Society and was a Mississippi Scholar. She was also a varsity cheerleader and a member of the tennis team. She was a member of the Junior Auxiliary Crown Club, and Junior Ambassadors for the Chamber of Commerce.

Hayley’s awards in high school include UCA All American cheerleader, Class Favorite, and Most School Spirit.

Hayley is a sophomore at Copiah-Lincoln Community College. She is a member of the Colette’s, Phi Theta Kappa, Trailblazers, and Mu Alpha Theta. She is majoring in pre-nursing and plans to pursue her nursing degree at the University of Southern Mississippi. She is a member at First Baptist Church.

Candace Makena Johnson is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Claude Johnson, the granddaughter of Ms. Amelia Guerra, the late Mr. Charles Kenneth Johnson, and the late Mrs. Clara Ann Moore.

Candace graduated from Brookhaven High School in 2021 as the Salutatorian of her class. She was a Mississippi Scholar and a Mississippi Tech Master, was inducted into the National Honor Society, the National Technical Honors Society, and the Brookhaven High School Academic Hall of Fame.  Candace was voted by her classmates as Most Likely to Succeed.  She was a member of the Junior Auxiliary Crown Club and a Lincoln County Junior Ambassador. She also spent time volunteering at King Daughter’s Medical Center as a Junior Volunteer and as a camp counselor at Camp Kaleidoscope, a camp for autistic children.

Candace is a sophomore Chemical Engineering student at Mississippi State University. She is a member of the Kappa Alpha Chapter of Phi Mu Sorority and spends time volunteering with her sorority. She is also an active member of the Latino Student Association, Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers.

Candace is a member of First United Methodist Church.

Morgan Karis Moak is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Pete Moak. She is the granddaughter of Mr. & Mrs. Connley Moak, Mr.& Mrs. Edward Dee Smith and the late Edward Mickey Thornton. 

Morgan is a 2021 Special Honors graduate of Brookhaven High School. She was a Mississippi Scholar, a member of the National Honor Society, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.  She was a recipient of the Swalm Scholarship, Academic Excellence Scholarship, a Lindy Callahan Scholar Athlete, in the Athletic Hall of Fame, in the Academic Hall of fame, and a President’s Scholar. She was a Miss BHS, BHS cheerleader, on the BHS soccer team, participated in the Homecoming production, Homecoming maid for 3 years, and class favorite.   

She’s currently a sophomore at Mississippi State majoring in Kinesiology with plans to become an Occupational Therapist. She’s in the Phi Delta chapter of Chi Omega Sorority, on the Dean’s list, a member of the Enneagram Club, and a member of the Mississippi State Wake Boarding team. She also leads a small group for Pinelake Church as part of their college ministry.  She’s a member of First Baptist Church.    

Her brother, Walker, was a trainbearer in 2015, brother Will was an escort in 2020, sister Maley was a maid in 2021. 

Abigail Rose Peavey is the daughter of Dr. Michael Peavey and Ms. Ashley Whittington. She is the granddaughter of Mr. Billy Peavey and the late Mrs. Virginia Anne Peavey and Dr. and Mrs. Frank Turnage. 

Abigail is a 2021 graduate of Brookhaven High School. She was included in the A and B honor roll. She was also the mascot and was awarded most school spirit. She was a member of the Junior Auxiliary crown club and Junior ambassador. She was a member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes and student director for the Brookhaven High School Homecoming production where she also was a member for all four years of high school.    

Abigail is a sophomore at Mississippi State University Majoring in Biological science with a minor in criminology. She plans to pursue her career as a nurse for the justice system.  She is a member of the Mississippi Gamma chapter of Pi Beta Phi Sorority. She served as the Director of Policy and Prevention education. She is a member of active minds, American Medical Women’s Association, Aspiring Minorities in Health professions, Pre-nursing club and also Reformed University Fellowship on campus. 

Her sister Rebecca Peavey served as a maid in 2020, brothers Nathan and Elliott Peavey both served in 2022.

She is also a member of Faith Presbyterian Church. 

Anna Katelyn Sproles is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Lofton Sproles. She is the granddaughter of the late Dub and Barbara Sproles and James and Jackie Carroll. 

Katie is a 2021 honors graduate of Brookhaven High School. She was a member of National Honors Society, a Mississippi Scholar, participated in 4 years of the Homecoming Production, and was voted Most Courteous her senior year. Katie was a member of Generation-Free State Youth Advisory Board, Les Belles Ambassador, Junior Auxiliary Crown Club, and she was chosen Miss Merry Christmas in 2020. 

Katie is currently at the University of Southern Mississippi majoring in marketing. She is on the Dean’s List and she entered Southern Mississippi as a Luckyday Scholar. This year, Katie was selected as a Luckyday Mentor for incoming freshmen. She is a member of Chi Omega Sorority, where she has served as banner chairperson and is now graphics chairperson. She is also a new member of 2023 Southern Style, a student ambassador program for USM. 

Katie was a trainbearer in 2014. Her sister, Jamie, was a trainbearer in 2009 and a maid in 2018. Her father served as an escort in 1989. Her Aunt Amy Sproles Smith was Queen in 1981. She attends Venture Church in Hattiesburg.

Rainie Elizabeth Welch is the daughter of Mr. And Mrs. Ricky Welch. She is the granddaughter of Mr. And Mrs. Kent Welch and Billy and the late Mrs. Melissa Boyd.

Raine is a graduate of Brookhaven Academy. She was a cheerleader for 6 years and cheer captain her senior year. She as involved in the History Club, Teenage Young Republicans and was All-American cheerleader numerous years.

Raine is currently at Copiah Lincoln Community College completing the associate degree program in Cosmetology. Rainie is a cheerleader at Copiah Lincoln community college, she was chosen as captain for the 2022-2023 season. She has worked diligently to stay involved in the community and make a difference.  Raine has volunteered and participated in several community groups such as crown club JA volunteer, FPK volunteer, Phi Theta Kappa honors society, Honors achievements, Who’s Who, Church involvement, and a variety of community service activities. 

Raine is a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
