BROOKHAVEN — It might not be the severe weather which spawned a tornado in the Little Bahalia community last week but NWS Jackson is forecasting weather dangers which could hit the area. Lincoln County is placed under an elevated threat for high winds Wednesday.

Winds could hit sustained speeds of 25 to 35 mph and gusts could reach 40 to 50 mph Wednesday throughout Lincoln, Pike, Amite, Franklin, Copiah, Natchez, Jefferson, Claiborne and Wilkinson Counties. Lawerence and eastern parts of Lincoln and Copiah Counties are forecast to have a limited threat of 25 to 35 mph winds and 3o to 40 mph gusts.

Strong winds could pose a threat to high profile vehicles while also breaking off tree limbs and felling trees. Power could be knocked out in the strong winds. NWS expects the winds to last from 9 a.m. Wednesday through the night into Thursday at 4 a.m.

A wind advisory is in effect on Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. There is a 40 percent chance of rain Wednesday mostly after 5 p.m. Rain chances will stick around on Thursday and Friday but it is a slight chance of rain at 20 percent. Wind speeds will return to 5 to 10 mph on Thursday and Friday.
