Update: Due to the overwhelming response from the citizens of Brookhaven we will cease donations Monday.

 

Mayor Joe Cox issued the following statement concerning Sunday morning’s fire.

 

A fire engulfed the Brookwood Apartment Complex in downtown Brookhaven located at 115 East Chippewa at 12:06 Sunday morning, February 26th. The complex contained 20 units and housed 28 residents. All 28 residents were displaced. Two minor injuries have been reported and the names of the two fatalities will be released upon official verification.

The current needs of the residents include toiletries, gift cards (no cash will be accepted), and clothing. Specific clothing sizes may be found on the City of Brookhaven’s Facebook page. In addition, pre-packaged, store-bought snacks are needed. Diabetic friendly snacks are very much appreciated.

Donations should be delivered to the Brookhaven Building located at 1154 Beltline Drive in Brookhaven from 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Monday and Tuesday of this week.

At this time, Brookhaven residents are handling all the needs of the apartment residents. If local resources begin to diminish, the City of Brookhaven will reach out to various media outlets.
