BROOKHAVEN — Parker Moak dried off his German Shorthaired Pointer Winnie at Jack’s Dog Wash Station located next to Jack’s Corner Laundry at 127 East Monticello Street Monday afternoon. It was the first time Moak had used the self-serve washing station since it opened on February 5.
Jack’s Corner Laundry and Dog Wash Station is located where Foster’s gas station was. General Manager Susan Foster said the pet washing station is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Cats can be washed there but Foster said she never had a cat who liked water.
Jack’s Dog Wash Station has three bays with shower heads, blow dryers, shampoo, conditioner and towels. A leash is available on the bays to keep dogs from running off. Each dog is $10 for 10 minutes and if you have more than one dog, there is a holding pen for you to wash them one at a time if needed.
All a pet owner has to do is place their dog or other pet in the bay, select the shampoo on the dial, make payment, shampoo, turn dial to rinse, push button once if you need one more minute and proceed to drying. Foster said it should take about five to seven minutes to clean your dog.
Moak said the process was simple.
“I liked it. It makes it a lot easier no doubt,” Moak said. “She (Winnie) has been needing a bath and we have been taking her somewhere that was expensive. This was a lot more convenient and affordable.”
Foster said they have seen about three or four dogs a day on average and on good days up to seven dogs. She expects the summer to be busier for the washing station.
“You could go to a vet or pet cleaners but you will pay more and the first thing the dog will do is go to the mud puddle when you get home,” Foster said. “The mess stays here and you save money. We have aprons to keep you dry too.”
