At 8:45 a.m. Tuesday, the Brookhaven Police SRT Team raided the home of a suspected gang member who had multiple outstanding warrants, according to Chief Kenneth Collins.

The SRT team knocked loudly on the front door of the Old Brook Road residence and announced themselves before entering the home. They repeatedly announced themselves until the area was safely cleared. BPD officers searched the premises.

“There was a shootout over here yesterday, and a dog was shot,” Collins said. “Multiple shell casings were located.”

Collins did not name the suspect.

“I want these so-called gang members to know Brookhaven Police Department is not going to back down. We will continue our efforts to keep our streets safe. This city is worth protecting. We’ll be doing our best,” he said. “Brookhaven doesn’t realize we’re in a fight for control of our streets. Criminals are intent on being criminals. We’re going to do whatever it takes.”
