Technocats visit capitol, still need help getting to Houston

JACKSON — Bogue Chitto’s robotics team the “Technocats” enjoyed a day at the capitol as guests of Senator Jason Barrett Tuesday. They are representing Lincoln County and the state of Mississippi in the world robotics championships held in Houston, Texas. 

Logan and Alex Gerald, Lucy Gates, Caroline Jordan and Morgan White make up the championship team with coaches Reggie Wise and Wendy Cawthorn advising them. 

Worlds Opens on April 18 and will be a week of competition and fun for the Technocats. It is a once in a lifetime trip and opportunity for the students.

A rough estimate of expenses the team will incur on the trip due to lodging, registration, parking and transportation for the four day trip is around $10,000. The Technocats are looking for sponsors or donors to help alleviate the expenses of the trip. 

People interested in sponsoring the team can contact them through their Facebook page Bogue Chitto Technocats or online through Technocrats.team. A link to donate through paypal is available on the site as well. Those wishing to donate via check can make them out to the Bogue Chitto Technocats Robotics team and bring them to the school’s main office. 

Speaking role

Alex Gerald will perform in Bogue Chitto’s play “Silver’s Secret” on Friday March 24th. Alex has the nickname pitboss and wears skull stickers on his helmet for the robotics team. The pirate theme is due to his role in the play.

He said the robotics team has allowed him to come out of his social shell and he will have many speaking parts in the play.

A performance for Elementary students will start at 1:30 in the gym. The school is asking for a $1.00 donation to cover the royalty fees and props. The main performance will take place at 6:00 p.m. in the gym; Entry fee is $5.00. Pirate attire is encouraged.
