A series of prank calls to 911 is under investigation by Brookhaven police.
Three calls were made to 911 dispatch Friday, reporting fires or other incidents at a business and residential areas, none of which were true. Two calls were placed to emergency services Thursday, falsely reporting gunshots.
“We have to take each call seriously,” said Police Chief Kenneth Collins. “We don’t know if they’re testing the waters to try to plot something criminal, so we have to treat it seriously.”
Collins said law enforcement asks anyone who knows anything about who made the calls to report the information they have.
“When we find the person or people responsible, we are going to lock them up,” the chief said. “It’s not good to be playing like this. It’s tying up man hours and taking us away from other things.”
Anyone with information is asked to call BPD at 601-833-2424.
