BROOKHAVEN — Industry is the base of Brookhaven’s economic pyramid and one of the ways the city’s chamber of commerce attracts industry is through its spec buildings. Chamber of Commerce executive director Garrick Combs spoke about the importance of Spec buildings in Brookhaven’s economic development this January.

Keystone Electric purchased the last spec building in 2020 and the Chamber built a new one to find another business a home.

Linbrook business park’s new spec building is 50,000 square feet with the potential to expand to 150,000 square feet. Combs said the chamber hopes to find a company to purchase or sign a lease agreement on the spec building this year.

He provided an update on where the chamber was in the process Monday.

“We are continuing to market our building in partnership with Cooperative Energy and Agracel,” Combs said. “We have had several productive meetings and showings of the building but we do not have a purchase and sales agreement or lease agreement as of yet.”

Southwest Electric announced it would build its district offices at Linbrook in January of 2021. There will be an update soon on where Southwest Electric is in their construction progress.
