A Biloxi man was sentenced to six months in prison and a Jackson man was sentenced to six years in prison for crimes investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and local police departments.

Gregory Lee McKee, a 24-year-old from Biloxi, submitted an anonymous tip online to the FBI on Sept. 20, 2022, according to court records. McKee claimed to have overheard a specific individual discussing plans to blow up a local police station. As a result of the tip, law enforcement officers searched the individual’s home, interviewed the individual, and interviewed the individual’s mother.

The individual denied making any statements about blowing up the Biloxi Police Station. The individual also explained that McKee may have set him up because they had previously had a falling out. Internet data indicated that the tip had come from an IP address associated with McKee’s mother. Ultimately, officers spoke with McKee who eventually admitted to submitting the tip because he was angry with the individual.

McKee was convicted and sentenced to six months in prison followed by two years supervised release, and a $1,000 fine for submitting a false tip to the FBI.

Jackson man Tyrese Antwon Linson, 23, brandished a pistol during a nighttime robbery of a local motel, according to court documents. Linson became angry with the motel clerks when his reservation did not appear in their computer. He then pulled a pistol and demanded money. Linson was taken into custody shortly thereafter.

Linson was convicted and sentenced to six years in prison for brandishing a firearm in relation to a crime of violence. This case was prosecuted as part of the joint federal, state and local Project Safe Neighborhoods Program, the centerpiece of the Department of Justice’s violent crime reduction efforts.
