The Lincoln County School District has named Matthew Hart as the new assistant principal of Loyd Star Attendance Center, beginning with the 2023-2024 school year.
“Mr. Hart is one of the sharpest individuals I’ve met as an educator,” said David Martin, Lincoln County Superintendent. “He has an in-depth understanding of curriculum and is able to assess areas of improvement and visualize how to close those gaps for our students and school to be successful. I have no reservation that he is the right person to support [new principal Seth] Lofton and the Loyd Star team in achieving academic excellence.”
Hart earned a bachelor of science degree in history from the University of Southern Mississippi, a master’s of science in special education from Mississippi College, and a specialist degree in educational administration, also from MC.
He has been a U.S. history teacher and department chair, a special education teacher, and most recently academic coach at Brookhaven High School. He was named Teacher of the Year 2018. Hart also served in the United States Navy Reserves and is a life-long resident of Lincoln County.
“I am grateful for the opportunity and excited to have a meaningful impact at Loyd Star as we continue to grow our students,” Hart said.
Hart and his wife Scarlett have three daughters — Nora, 4, who will be a kindergarten student at Loyd Star in the fall; and 2-year-old twins Mamie and Myla. They are members of First Baptist Church Brookhaven.
