Loyd Star uses deep ball to get past West Lincoln in Region 7-2A play

Balls were flying out of the yard on Tuesday for the Loyd Star Hornets (18-5) as the team used six extra base hits to pile up the runs quickly in a 17-1 win over West Lincoln (6-7) on the road.

Garrett Carwyle, Conner Cunningham and Nathan Mills all hit a double apiece for Loyd Star.

Senior catcher Casen DeHart, a Copiah-Lincoln CC baseball signee, slugged two home runs and Cunningham hit a dinger of his own as well.

DeHart drove in five runs and Cunningham drove in four runs as coach Jared Britt watched his team get 16 hits.

Brody Dillon got aboard for the lone hit manufactured by the home team of Bears.

Carwyle pitched the first three innings for the Hornets and got the win. He struck out six, walked three and didn’t give up a hit.

Jake Smith struck out three in an inning of relief for LS.

Eli Thornton, Carter Holcomb, Colby Terrell, Blake Thornton and Brnadon Burt all also hit safely for the Hornets in the win.
