Beaver Creek Distillery will host Books & Gin on Saturday, April 22, from noon until 6 p.m.

The event is the first in Spirit Saturdays, an ongoing series where guests are able to enjoy spirits crafted by the Bassfield distillery’s master distiller Rhonda Phillips, and enjoy food and live music from Bo Foster & Friends.

Books & Gin will feature well-known author and journalist Ralph Eubanks, a Mount Olive, Mississippi native. Eubanks has written extensively about the intersection of race, culture and identity in America. His works have been published in The New Yorker, The Atlantic, Vanity Fair, The American Scholar, The Georgia Review, and The Oxford American. He is a 2007 Guggenheim fellow and a 2021-2022 Harvard Radcliffe Institute fellow. His latest book, A Place Like Mississippi, explores the rich literary landscape of the state, both real and imagined.

“We’re excited to host Books & Gin at Beaver Creek Distillery,” said Phillips, a Bassfield native. “We believe that good spirits and literature go hand-in-hand, and Mount Olive native Ralph Eubanks is the perfect author to help us celebrate Mississippi’s literary heritage. We encourage everyone to join us in our tasting room and deck for a relaxing afternoon featuring the words of Ralph Eubanks, good music, and our wonderful new spirits produced right here in South Mississippi.”

Mississippi’s first native spirits craft distillery, Beaver Creek Distillery is a small-batch, family-owned distillery located near Bassfield, on George W. King Road. The distillery produces spirits using locally-sourced ingredients and traditional distilling techniques. It is open to the public for tours, tastings and events throughout the year.
