‘The Classy, The Cute, The Unusual, The Unique,’ Honey Pot II open for business

BROOKHAVEN — Honey Pot II and its owner Wanza McGuffie are back in business. The vendor’s haven is now open at 110 East Cherokee Street and has a little bit of everything from clothes to home decor and antiques.

The first Honey Pot was next to the Brookhaven Movie Theatre before McGuffie suffered a heart attack. She said the heart attack took her out of commission for a year. The Honey Pot was selling items for her vendors online and out of a storage unit before she found the location on East Cherokee Street.

One day after church she happened to pass the property and saw it was up for lease. By May 15, she signed a lease on the property and opened up for business on June 1. It is her second location but still the same style business named after her 11 year old dachshund Honey.

“I have had so many different people want me to reopen again. Some of the vendors are already in here and they were ready to get started. I’m here because I have good vendors,” McGuffie said. “The only reason I left the first store was due to my health. I’m better now. I’m just thankful to be here. God wasn’t through with me.”

Honey Pot II is a deep building split up by multiple rooms where tanning beds stations were, perfect for vendor booths. A beauty salon was in the back and will be converted to vendor space.

She has had help in the past few weeks to get the business open. Her close friends Judy Arnold and Darlene Nations helped get the Honey Pot II going and checked up on her regularly when she was sick.

One of the reasons McGuffie enjoys running a vendor haven is how people find treasures in an old lamp, a random blue cup or watch. She enjoys seeing people stop by from Natchez, Jackson, Baton Rouge and Houma, Louisiana and everywhere in between.

The original Honey Pot location had an extensive Elvis Presley collection and some of it will return to the Honey Pot II. Behind the front counter, a corner is dedicated as a shrine to the King of Rock ‘N’ Roll.

“I’m just an Elvis lover,” McGuffie said.

She is also a musician and claims most of her friends are through music. A Hog Chain native, she is a member of Mount Moriah Baptist Church but is a pianist at Victory Baptist Church.

One of her friends Rona Barrett Herring will perform in front of the store during the Brookhaven Chamber of Commerce Girls Night Out event on June 15. Herring was named the 2023 Female Country Singer of the Year in April. Honey Pot II will be open for Girls Night Out.

Jonathan Sharp, a Broadway dancer and singer, will perform for the Honey Pot II’s grand opening on June 23 at 11 a.m.

Honey Pot II is open from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. People can follow the store on Facebook at The Honey Pot II.
