BROOKHAVEN — NWS Jackson warns of increasing heat stress risk going into the weekend this week. Temperatures could rise from mid 90s to upper 90s and heat indices could rise from 105 to 110.

Limited risk of heat stress will be here Friday and an elevated risk will move in over Saturday and Sunday. It is best to beat the heat by staying hydrated, avoiding strenuous and prolonged outdoor activity and take breaks if working outdoors. The threat of heat stress is greatest between 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Brookhaven Academy returns to athletic action this week and will have to play in the heat. The Cougars kickoff soccer season against Mt. Salus Tuesday night at 6 p.m. before traveling to Manchester Academy Friday for a game at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday night’s low is 70 so maybe it will cool off in time for the soccer match.
