Gayten rushed 19 times for 205 yards and three touchdowns in a 35-20 opening week win over Lawrence County. A Mississippi State commit, his two long runs in the fourth quarter blew open what had been a one-point game. Gayten looked fresh and in top condition all night as he exploded past the line of scrimmage in the fourth quarter on a 70-yard touchdown run.
