Update: Forestry Commission on scene to fight Lawrence County fire

CENTER — Mississippi Forestry Commission Wildland Firefighters are on scene at a fire burning in a pine plantation off of Trace Road in Lawrence County Monday. Brookhaven-Lincoln County Emergency Management Agency Director Chris Reid said they were working on a game plan to take care of the fire.

MFC spokesman Kevin Craft said the fire is estimated to be between 75 to 100 acres right now. Wildland fire fighters, the local sheriff office, volunteer fire departments are on scene working on the fire at this time.

The fire on the pine plantation makes up a fraction of a 701-acre tract owned by Weyerhaeuser Company, according to OnX mapping.
