Thursday forecast calls for scattered showers

BROOKHAVEN — Weather in Southwest Mississippi features fire and rain this week. Wildfires burned in Lawerence and Lincoln Counties to start the week but it appears a chance of rain could find the area.

National Weather Service in Jackson forecasts scattered showers Thursday with a 50 percent chance of rain. Wednesday had a 40 percent chance of rain. Wind out of the north and clouds in the sky will drop temperatures to a high of 85 degrees. The low will reach 66 Thursday night.

No rain is in the forecast Friday but a 30 percent chance of rain returns Saturday. Sunday drops to 20 percent chance of rain.

Lincoln County is currently in a burn ban and extreme drought according to the US Drought Monitor. It would take substantial amount of rain to pull the area out of a drought and a burn ban. The 8-14 day forecast of rain for Lincoln County is a below average chance of rain.
