Former president Donald Trump has become the official nominee of the Republican National Convention for president.

Trump has been the presumptive nominee for months, but the vote of RNC delegates in Milwaukee Monday afternoon made it official. He hit the necessary threshold with votes from his home state of Florida.

Trump named Ohio Sen. JD Vance as his vice-presidential pick.

“After lengthy deliberation and thought, and considering the tremendous talents of many others, I have decided that the person best suited to assume the position of Vice President of the United States is Senator J.D. Vance of the Great State of Ohio,” Trump posted on his Truth Social Network.

The 39-year-old Vance is in his first term in the Senate. In 2016, he was a “never-Trumper,” calling Trump “dangerous” and “unfit” for office. By the time he met Trump in 2021, however, he had reversed his opinion, citing Trump’s accomplishments as president. Trump endorsed Vance in his 2022 bid for Congress and Vance is now one of the former president’s fiercest allies on Capitol Hill.
