City: ‘Bear with us’ on debris pick-up

Brookhaven Solid Waste supervisor Tion Lebbage asked residents to “bear with us” as the City works to pick up debris piles.

“We’re backed up. We ask you to bear with us,” Lebbage said.

Crews on three trucks are moving systematically through the wards picking up clean and dirty piles of debris. Clean piles are picked up first and taken to the transfer station, then crews go back and pick up dirty piles.

“Clean” piles of debris include limbs and other such materials that would come from yard or property clean-up. “Dirty” piles include anything that is non-biodegradable, such as appliances and mattresses. Construction and remodeling waste cannot be disposed of in these piles for the City to remove.

Lebbage said his crews are trying to catch up because so many people are removing dead limbs and trees, and a tree fell on one of the City’s solid waste trucks Tuesday, putting it out of commission.

The weekly routes for pickup of debris are as follows:

Mondays — Ward 4

Tuesdays — Ward 5

Wednesdays — Wards 1 and 2

Thursdays — Ward 6

Fridays — Wards 2 and 3

Lebbage said pickup for Ward 1 could begin on Tuesdays, if Ward 5 is completed early enough.

If anyone has a pickup that could be considered an emergency, they are encouraged to call the City Hotline at 601-835-8025.
